Trane was founded in La Crosse, Wisconsin in 1885 by a Norwegian immigrant entrepreneur named James Trane. The cold Wisconsin winters inspired James to create a low-pressure heating system called the Trane Vapor Heating System. In 1913 he joined with his son Reuben Trane to incorporate The Trane Company. Reuben, a mechanical engineer, solidified the company’s innovative reputation with the invention of the convector radiator in 1923.
