What is NATE Certified?
NATE stands for North American Technicians Excellence an organization based in Arlington, VA and represents the largest non-profit certification organization for heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration technicians. NATE was founded in 1997 with a stated goal of fulfilling the perceived lack of a trusted certification authority in the contractor field. The tests and certifications are designed and given by other technicians creating a certification process deeply rooted in current and real working knowledge of conferred fields. NATE certified technicians are considered the most knowledgeable experienced technicians in their respective spheres.
NATE Certification Qualifications
To join the ranks of NATE certified technicians you first need to decide which certification you will be attempting. There are two basic level certifications one for beginners called the Ready to Work certification and another for more advanced HVAC technicians called the HVAC support technician certificate. The latter is targeted at techs that have been in the industry for 6 to 12 months. At the top of certifications there is the professional level certification aimed at techs that have been in the industry for longer than two years. And finally there are specific special certifications which vary depending on individual goals. Each certification comes with its own exam and lasts two years before renewal is required. More on the various certification levels here.
Why Choose NATE Certified Technicians
NATE certified technicians have met the highest standards of experience, expertise, and most importantly follow industry best practices. There are several certifications HVAC technicians can earn but none more held in higher regard than NATE certification. The process of attaining a certification has been refined by more than two decades of continued operation unlike other newer certification organizations. The two year renewal requirement combined with being industry run increases the quality of service you can expect from a NATE certified technician.
